Why Intersections Like Hwy 57 & County Hwy PP Can Be Dangerous
Rural highway intersections can become hazardous when vehicles traveling at different speeds meet at crossing points controlled by stop signs. Drivers entering a highway often have limited time to judge the speed and distance of approaching traffic, especially when large commercial vehicles are involved.
Crashes involving dump trucks may also result in severe damage because of the vehicle’s size and weight. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can be significant for smaller passenger vehicles.
Traffic volume, visibility, and roadway layout can also affect safety at intersections. In many cases, investigators review vehicle positions, road markings, and witness statements to better understand how a collision occurred. Weather conditions and driver reaction times may also provide added context during the review process.
