Camden County, MO (May 18, 2026) – One person was killed and another seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on eastbound US-54 west of Route AA, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Authorities reported that the crash occurred around 8:11 a.m. Investigators said a 2017 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 30-year-old woman from Macks Creek, hydroplaned and began to spin while traveling westbound. The Hyundai crossed the center of the roadway and struck a 1997 Chevrolet GMT-400 driven by a 39-year-old man from Roach. The Hyundai then went off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. Emergency responders pronounced the female driver deceased at the scene, while the male driver was transported by Mercy Ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers, including TPR S.W. Mahaney, Sgt. G.D. Ward, and Cpl. B.J. Blankenbeker, assisted along with the Camden County Sheriff’s Department. The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue reviewing road conditions, vehicle positions, and witness statements.
Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased driver, and we wish a full recovery for the injured driver.
Highway Safety and Driving Awareness
Highway crashes can happen suddenly, especially in wet conditions where vehicles may hydroplane and lose control. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed in adverse weather, maintain safe distances, and remain alert to changing roadway conditions.
Even moderate-speed collisions can result in severe injuries or fatalities, particularly when vehicles cross into oncoming lanes. Motorists should exercise extra caution near curves, intersections, and areas with limited visibility, as quick reactions can prevent serious accidents.
Emergency responders rely on drivers to stay aware and provide space while crews work to clear crash scenes safely. Defensive driving and attention to road conditions remain critical in preventing highway fatalities.
