What Happens When a Vehicle Crosses Into Oncoming Traffic?
Crashes involving vehicles crossing into opposing lanes often lead to severe outcomes due to the direct impact between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. These incidents can happen for several reasons, including driver distraction, medical issues, or loss of control.
Head-on collisions tend to cause more damage than other crash types because of the combined speed of both vehicles. Safety features like airbags and seatbelts can help reduce harm, but the force of impact is often significant.
Road design and visibility can also influence how these crashes occur. Curves, narrow lanes, or limited sight distance may increase the risk. In many cases, investigators review vehicle position, road markings, and driver actions to piece together how the event unfolded.
