Glocester, RI (April 27, 2026) – A crash involving a pickup truck and a state vehicle left a park ranger injured on Putnam Pike in Glocester.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, along Route 44 as a pickup truck pulling a trailer loaded with landscaping tools was heading west. Police said the driver lost control, causing the trailer to swing into the eastbound lane. A Department of Environmental Management vehicle traveling in the opposite direction struck the trailer and overturned.
Emergency units responded to the scene and assisted those involved. The park ranger driving the DEM vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. No other injuries were confirmed at the time of the report.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Can Happen When a Vehicle Towing a Trailer Loses Control?
When a vehicle is pulling a trailer, balance and control can be harder to maintain, especially at higher speeds or during sudden movements. If the trailer begins to sway, it can quickly shift into nearby lanes and create a risk for oncoming traffic.
Weight distribution also affects how a trailer behaves on the road. Uneven loads or loose equipment can make it more difficult for the driver to keep the vehicle steady. In some cases, the trailer may swing wide or detach entirely.
Other drivers nearby may have little time to react if a trailer moves unexpectedly. This can lead to crashes involving multiple vehicles, especially on busy roads or highways where traffic is moving in both directions.
