What Can Cause Loss of Control in Large Truck Crashes?
Large commercial vehicles, such as logging trucks, require longer stopping distances and can be harder to control on rural highways. Factors such as road surface conditions, speed, and shifting loads can affect stability, especially during turns or lane changes.
When a truck crosses into oncoming traffic, even briefly, it can quickly lead to a serious collision due to the size difference between vehicles. Rural highways may also have limited shoulder space, reducing recovery options for drivers.
Investigators typically review vehicle mechanics, road conditions, and driver input to determine why a loss of control occurred.
