Why Wrong-Way Crashes on Multi-Lane Roads Are Especially Dangerous
Wrong-way crashes can be especially severe because they often result in head-on impacts. These collisions happen when a vehicle enters lanes moving in the opposite direction, leaving little time for drivers to react. The combined speed of both vehicles increases the force of the crash.
Multi-lane highways and divided roads can create confusion, especially at night or during poor weather. Drivers who miss signs, make sudden turns, or enter from the wrong access point can unintentionally travel against traffic. Even a short distance in the wrong lane can lead to a serious accident.
Road markings, signs, and median barriers are designed to reduce these risks. Staying alert and carefully following lane directions can help drivers avoid dangerous situations on busy roads.
