Why Lane Closures Follow Early Morning Crashes
Lane closures are common after early morning crashes as crews work to secure the area and remove damaged vehicles. Even with fewer cars on the road at that hour, blocked lanes can still disrupt traffic flow.
When vehicles sustain heavy damage, additional time may be needed to remove the vehicles in a safe way and also clear the debris that may have been dispersed onto the road. This can extend closures beyond the initial response period.
Investigations at the scene may also require temporary restrictions while evidence is reviewed. Once the roadway is cleared and conditions are safe, lanes are gradually reopened to restore normal travel patterns.
