Fresno County, CA (May 6, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash left one SUV overturned Tuesday morning at the intersection of California Avenue and Brawley Avenue in Fresno County. The collision occurred around 5:30 a.m. and involved an orange Dodge Challenger and a white Jeep SUV.
Emergency units responded to the scene and found the Jeep overturned on its side following the impact. Initial reports indicate the Challenger was traveling south while the Jeep was heading west through the intersection.
The Jeep reportedly had the right of way when the Challenger entered the intersection and struck the SUV’s rear. The force of the crash caused the Jeep to flip over before coming to rest on its side.
Moderate injuries were reported among those involved, though no one was taken to the hospital. Traffic in the area was affected while crews worked to clear the vehicles and secure the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover.
How Intersection Collisions Can Lead to Vehicle Rollovers
Vehicle rollovers at intersections can occur when a car is struck at an angle, shifting its balance. Side or rear impacts can cause a vehicle to tip, especially if the force pushes it sideways. The direction and point of impact play a significant role in how a vehicle responds, as lateral forces are more likely to compromise stability than a direct frontal or rear hit.
Right-of-way violations are a common factor in these crashes. When one driver enters an intersection unexpectedly, the resulting collision can create enough force to overturn a vehicle. The speed at which the at-fault driver was traveling at the moment of impact often determines how severe that force becomes, and whether the struck vehicle is pushed into a roll or displaced.
Road conditions, vehicle height, and speed can also play a role in this scenario. SUVs may be more prone to tipping due to their higher center of gravity, especially during sudden impacts. Pickup trucks and vans share similar vulnerabilities, and even a relatively moderate collision can initiate a rollover when the vehicle’s weight is unevenly distributed or when tires lose contact with the road surface during impact.
