What Is Typically Examined After a Head-On Collision?
Head-on collisions are among the most severe types of roadway crashes because both vehicles are usually moving toward each other at the time of contact. As a result, the forces involved can be significantly greater than in many other traffic-related incidents.
When reviewing a head-on collision, investigators commonly look at roadway markings, lane positions, vehicle damage patterns, and any available witness statements. They may also examine weather conditions, visibility, road surface conditions, and whether distractions or impairment could have been factors. Modern vehicles can sometimes provide electronic data that helps establish speed, braking activity, or steering inputs before contact occurs.
In many cases, gathering and reviewing all available evidence takes time. Early reports usually contain only basic information, while a more complete picture develops as additional findings are analyzed and verified.
