Newsoms, VA (July 15, 2026) – A child died after a dirt bike carrying two people collided head-on with a pickup truck Monday evening, July 13, in the 32000 block of Barnes Church Circle in Newsoms.

According to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the crash at approximately 5:50 p.m. Investigators said an adult was operating the dirt bike with a child riding as a passenger when it collided head-on with a pickup truck.

The adult operating the dirt bike was flown by helicopter to a regional hospital for treatment, while the child was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead later that evening. The pickup truck driver was not injured. The crash remains under investigation, and officials said charges are pending.

Our deepest condolences are with the child’s family, friends, and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.

What Is Typically Examined After a Fatal Dirt Bike Collision?

Fatal crashes involving dirt bikes require investigators to carefully examine both the vehicles and the roadway where the collision occurred. They may review the direction of travel, lane positioning, physical evidence, visibility, and damage to each vehicle to determine how the collision unfolded. Witness statements and any available video footage can also provide valuable information.

Investigators may also evaluate factors such as roadway design, vehicle operation, and safety equipment used by those involved. Medical findings and evidence collected from the roadway are combined to develop a complete timeline of the moments leading up to the collision. Because these reviews are thorough, it may take time before final findings are released.
