Clay, MO (January 27, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident involving a pickup truck and an SUV caused injuries and major traffic delays Monday morning along the northbound lanes of I-435 just south of MO-210 in Clay County.
The crash took place around 9:20 a.m. when both vehicles—identified as a 2022 Ford F-150 and a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe—veered off the left side of the roadway and struck the concrete median barrier. After the initial impact, the Hyundai’s front passenger side collided with the driver’s side of the Ford, intensifying the damage to both vehicles.
First responders, including Kansas City Fire and Police, arrived quickly to assist those hurt in the incident. A 63-year-old woman from Kansas City, the driver of the Hyundai, suffered injuries and was transported by medics to an area hospital for further evaluation. In the Ford, a juvenile female passenger from Independence also sustained injuries and was transported for care. The adult male driver of the Ford, age 27, was reportedly uninjured.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage—one with extensive damage, the other with moderate—and were towed from the scene by Brad’s Towing. Emergency crews worked efficiently to clear the wreckage and restore the flow of traffic, though delays were reported throughout the late morning hours.
Authorities with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with assistance from the Kansas City Police, are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash. Contributing factors such as road conditions and driver actions remain under review.
We extend our thoughts to the individuals injured in this collision and wish them a full and speedy recovery.
