Frequently Asked Questions
Do motorcycle crashes happen more frequently at intersections?
Yes. Intersections bring together turning vehicles, cross traffic, and limited sightlines, which raises the chance a driver will fail to see an approaching motorcycle in time to stop or yield.
Does road surface make a difference for motorcyclists?
It does. Loose gravel, potholes, wet pavement, and painted lane markings all reduce tire grip, and a motorcycle has far less stability than a car when traction drops suddenly.
What gear actually cuts down on rider injuries?
A DOT-approved helmet, a reinforced jacket and pants, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots are commonly cited as reducing the severity of head, road rash, and limb injuries in a crash.
What usually causes motorcycle crashes?
Common factors include drivers failing to spot a motorcycle before turning or changing lanes, following too closely, speed, and riders losing control on poor road surfaces.
