Columbus, OH (April 14, 2026) – A late-night crash on April 13, along Interstate 270 near Georgesville Road, left one woman dead and another person critically injured after a series of collisions involving multiple vehicles stopped on the left shoulder. Emergency units responded to the scene at about 2:30 a.m. following reports of a serious interstate crash.
According to initial findings, Jodi Tackett, 45, was seated inside a Toyota Corolla parked on the left shoulder. She was positioned roughly 50 feet behind two adults who were outside a Toyota minivan attempting to change a tire. Both vehicles were stationary at the time of the incident.
A 30-year-old driver of an Audi A4 lost control and struck the rear of the Corolla. The impact forced the Corolla forward into the minivan, where one of the adults working nearby was struck and injured. Tackett died at the scene due to the severity of the crash, while the injured adult was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
After the collision, the Audi driver left the scene on foot but was later taken into custody a short distance away. Reports indicate alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor, though no charges had been publicly announced at the time of reporting.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
What Happens After a Serious Multi-Vehicle Highway Crash?
After a severe highway crash, early reports typically focus on where vehicles were positioned and how the sequence of impacts unfolded. These details help establish how stationary or moving vehicles may have interacted in the moments before a collision.
Investigators also review roadway conditions, lighting, and visibility at the time of the incident. Shoulder areas on highways can be especially risky when vehicles are stopped, particularly during low-light hours.
Medical updates also become part of the broader picture. Injury severity, response time, and transport details can help clarify how the crash affected those involved. In many cases, this information develops gradually as more records and statements become available.
