What Details Are Often Reviewed After a Fatal Intersection Crash?
After a deadly crash at an intersection, several factors are often examined to piece together what happened. Traffic signal timing is commonly checked to see if lights were functioning properly at the time. Investigators may also review whether any driver failed to yield or ran a red light.
Vehicle position and damage can offer clues about the direction and speed of each car before impact. Skid marks and debris on the road may also help show how drivers reacted in the moments leading up to the crash.
In some cases, visibility at the intersection is reviewed, including lighting conditions and any obstructions. Witness statements can also help fill in gaps, especially when few details are available early on.
