What Makes Multi-Lane Roads Risky for Pedestrians?
Multi-lane roads can present added challenges for pedestrians, especially when crossing outside of controlled intersections. Even if one lane of traffic stops, drivers in other lanes may not immediately see a person crossing ahead.
Visibility can be blocked by other vehicles, making it harder for drivers to react in time. Speed differences between lanes may also increase the chance of a crash if a driver does not expect someone in the roadway.
Careful attention from both drivers and pedestrians is key in these areas. Crossing at designated points and remaining alert to traffic in all lanes can help reduce the risk of an accident.
