Why Rollover Crashes Can Lead to Severe Outcomes
Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of traffic incidents because of the force and motion involved. When a vehicle tips or flips, occupants can be thrown around inside, increasing the risk of serious injury even if seatbelts are in use.
These crashes often involve multiple points of impact. As a vehicle rolls, it may strike the ground several times, causing structural damage and increasing the chance of harm to those inside. The roof and sides of the vehicle can take significant force during each rotation.
Factors such as speed, vehicle type, and road conditions can all contribute to a rollover. Sudden changes in direction or uneven terrain may cause a vehicle to lose balance, especially if it begins to tip. These situations can develop quickly and are often difficult for drivers to recover from once they begin.
