Dearborn County, IN (June 14, 2026) – A married couple from Ripley County lost their lives in a head-on collision on State Road 350 in Dearborn County on Friday evening, June 12. Two young children were injured in the crash, and another driver was hospitalized.

The collision occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. According to the preliminary investigation, a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by 46-year-old Steven Witte of Moores Hill was traveling westbound on SR-350 when it crossed the center line and entered the path of an eastbound 2017 GMC Terrain.

The GMC was driven by 33-year-old Jordan Walters of Milan. The vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane. Following the impact, the pickup truck spun and came to rest in the roadway, while the SUV left the south side of the road and stopped on an embankment.

Jordan Walters and his wife, Sierra Walters, 33, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their two young children, who were riding in the back seat, were injured and transported to area hospitals for treatment. Witte sustained serious injuries and was taken to a Cincinnati-area hospital. Deputies are still investigating the accident, and more information will be updated as it becomes available.

We send our deepest sympathies to the grieving family and friends of the deceased couple.

What Information Is Usually Reviewed After a Head-On Collision?

Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway accidents because the force of impact is concentrated between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. After such a collision, investigators typically review vehicle positions, roadway evidence, witness statements, and damage patterns to determine how the crash unfolded.

One of the primary questions is whether a vehicle crossed the center line and, if so, what factors may have contributed. Road conditions, driver actions, visibility, mechanical issues, and other circumstances can all become part of the review process. Toxicology testing may also be conducted in some cases to help establish a complete understanding of the events leading up to the collision.

When children are involved, medical evaluations focus on the effectiveness of restraint systems and the extent of injuries. Information gathered during the investigation can help clarify the sequence of events and provide a more complete picture of the crash.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
