Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crashes Delay Critical Help
Bicycle crashes can cause serious harm because riders have little protection from the force of a vehicle. Even when injuries are not life-threatening, a cyclist may need treatment for head trauma, broken bones, cuts, or internal injuries.
Hit-and-run crashes create added concerns because the driver leaves before officers can gather information at the site. This may delay medical details, vehicle identification, and the early reconstruction of how the crash happened.
Witnesses can become important in these investigations. The police may review vehicle descriptions, nearby cameras, bicycle damage, debris, roadway markings, and statements from people nearby to determine what happened and identify everyone involved.
