Grand Junction, CO (July 22, 2026) – A wrong-way driver was killed, and six people were seriously injured after a head-on crash on Interstate 70 near mile marker 4 in Mesa County near the Utah state line.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 20, when a Subaru Outback traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes collided with a Ford F-150. The impact pushed the Subaru down an embankment, where it rolled onto its side and caught fire. The 32-year-old Colorado Springs woman driving the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 40-year-old Thornton man driving the Ford F-150 and five passengers, including a 13-year-old and a 10-year-old girl, were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. The interstate was closed for several hours while the crash scene was investigated.
