How Electric Scooter Crashes on State Highways Can Happen
Electric scooters are becoming more common on roads and shoulders in many communities. Riders often travel close to traffic, especially when sidewalks are not available. This can place them near larger vehicles moving at higher speeds.
On state routes and rural highways, speed limits are typically higher than on neighborhood streets. Drivers may not expect to see a scooter rider along the shoulder, which can increase the risk of a collision if a vehicle drifts from its lane. Visibility, road width, and traffic flow can all affect safety in these situations.
Helmet use, proper positioning, and driver awareness can influence how these incidents unfold. As scooter use grows, road sharing remains a topic of ongoing safety discussion.
