Denton, MD (February 28, 2026) – A head-on crash involving a box truck and another vehicle left one person dead and another critically injured on Ridgely Road near Shore Highway on Friday afternoon, February 27. Emergency units responded shortly after 1:52 p.m. following reports of a serious collision with entrapment.
First responders found two people trapped inside the vehicles. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second patient was extricated and flown by air ambulance to Shock Trauma with critical injuries. Additional medics were dispatched to assist, and a driver from one of the vehicles was later treated at a medical facility for chest pains and difficulty breathing.
The crash caused a temporary closure of Ridgely Rd, and traffic was redirected for several hours as crews cleared the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased.
Why Head-On Collisions Often Result in Fatal or Critical Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the deadliest types of traffic accidents due to the combined speed and force of both vehicles. Even moderate-speed collisions can cause severe trauma, especially when large vehicles like box trucks are involved.
Entrapment is common in these crashes because vehicle structures can collapse or crumple under impact. Rescue teams may require specialized equipment to free occupants, and injuries often include chest, head, and limb trauma.
Road closures and traffic delays are typical after such accidents because emergency crews need space to safely extract victims and secure the scene. Safety measures like seat belts, airbags, and attentive driving can reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of serious injury in head-on collisions.
