The Woodlands, TX (June 29, 2026) – A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy died after being struck by a commercial truck while assisting at an earlier roadway collision on Sunday morning, June 28, on Interstate 45 North near the Woodlands Parkway exit. The fatal collision occurred after deputies were called to the highway around 2:39 a.m. following reports of a multi-vehicle wreck.
Investigators said 24-year-old Deputy Erika Serrato was outside her patrol unit directing traffic when a heavy-duty truck towing a trailer entered the work zone and struck her. The truck also hit two marked patrol vehicles with their emergency lights activated. Serrato was taken to a hospital, where she later died. Another deputy was hurt when debris struck him and was treated for minor injuries before being released. The commercial truck driver was also taken to a hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation, and additional information may be released as the review continues.
