Detroit, MI (January 24, 2026) – Six people were injured Friday evening when a vehicle crashed through the entrance of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, striking a ticket counter and scattering debris across the terminal. The dramatic incident occurred near the Delta Air Lines ticketing area and prompted an immediate emergency response.
According to the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA), the crash happened inside the airport’s departure area, where a blue four-door sedan drove through the glass entrance and came to a stop near the ticketing counters. The hood and trunk of the vehicle were seen popped open in video footage shared by witnesses.
WCAA Fire Department personnel treated six individuals at the scene. Fortunately, none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening. Delta Air Lines confirmed that three of its employees were checked by medical staff after being exposed to flying debris, though no serious injuries or operational impacts were reported.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody, but authorities have not yet released their name or disclosed a possible motive. Airport police are leading the investigation, and the cause of the crash remains unknown at this time.
Glass and other debris were visible on the ground in the aftermath, with the entryway cordoned off by yellow police tape as investigators worked the scene. Travelers in the area described the event as sudden and chaotic.
One witness, Ali Khalifa, told WXYZ that the entire event unfolded within seconds and praised the fast reaction of emergency crews: “The response was so quick – thank God.”
