Detroit, MI (January 8, 2026) – A traffic accident caused delays on westbound I-96 near Greenfield Rd Wednesday afternoon after emergency crews responded to reports of a crash involving smoke and blocked lanes. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. and led to one individual sustaining a minor injury.
Detroit emergency units arrived quickly at the scene, where they found a vehicle blocking traffic and emitting smoke. The injured party was evaluated by EMS, while Michigan State Police were called to assist with traffic management and scene control.
Though the injuries were reported to be minor, the crash briefly disrupted travel in the area. Responders worked to clear the vehicle from the roadway and ensure the area was safe for reopening.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. No other injuries were reported, and no additional vehicles were confirmed to be involved. Officials have not released the identity of the injured person at this time.
