Why Pedestrian Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Pedestrian crashes can cause serious harm because people on foot have no protection from the force of a vehicle. Even at lower speeds, a person may suffer head injuries, broken bones, or internal trauma after being hit.
Nighttime conditions can add risk for both drivers and pedestrians. Low light may make it harder to see people crossing or walking near a roadway. Busy roads with nearby side streets can also create more points where vehicles and pedestrians cross paths.
After a pedestrian accident, medical teams often focus on head pain, leg injuries, bleeding, and signs of shock. The location of impact, vehicle speed, lighting, and roadway design can all affect the severity of injuries.
