Hollansburg, OH (June 28, 2026) – A dirt bike rider was killed, and another person suffered serious injuries after a head-on crash early Friday on Richmond-Palestine Road in Darke County.

The crash happened around 1:23 a.m. on June 26, on Richmond-Palestine Road just north of Downing Road. Investigators said that a 2014 KTM 350 SX-F dirt bike was traveling south when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound 2005 Honda CRF250. Both dirt bikes left the roadway following the impact.

Ian Dixon, 21, of Hollansburg, was riding the Honda dirt bike and died from injuries suffered in the crash. The 19-year-old New Madison man operating the KTM was flown to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Emergency units responded to the scene and assisted with the incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed After a Head-On Dirt Bike Crash?

Head-on dirt bike crashes involve a close review of roadway position, speed, visibility, and the actions of each rider before impact. Investigators may also examine skid marks, damage to the bikes, and the surrounding road conditions to help determine how the collision occurred.

Protective equipment, including helmets, is frequently reviewed because it can affect the severity of injuries. Medical findings, witness statements, and physical evidence from the scene may also help build a clearer picture of the events. In crashes involving off-road motorcycles operated on public roads, investigators may also look at whether the vehicles were being used in accordance with local traffic laws. These combined findings help explain the circumstances surrounding the crash and provide a more complete account of what happened.
