Dracut, MA (May 6, 2026) – A Tyngsborough man died following a head-on crash Tuesday night on Merrimack Avenue in Dracut.
Emergency units responded shortly after 8:30 p.m. and found a man unconscious beside an overturned Jeep Wrangler. An off-duty EMT had already started CPR before crews arrived.
The victim, identified as 48-year-old Damian Torres, was taken to Lowell General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A woman and a teenager in the other vehicle, a Subaru Forester, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Early reports suggested a second person may have been in the Jeep, but a search involving a K-9 unit and a boat along the Merrimack River did not locate anyone else. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
Head-On Crashes Lead to Severe Vehicle Damage and Ejection Risks
Head-on crashes are among the most serious types of roadway incidents because both vehicles collide directly, often at combined speeds. This type of impact can cause major damage and increase the likelihood of occupants being thrown from a vehicle, especially if restraints are not used or fail during the crash.
Roads that run alongside rivers or have limited barriers can add complexity to these situations. Vehicles may overturn or leave the roadway, making it harder for responders to locate all involved parties.
In some cases, early reports may indicate additional occupants, leading to extended searches. These efforts can include the use of specialized units and nearby water access when a crash occurs close to a river or embankment.
