Brookfield, MO (September 3, 2026) – A 35-year-old man was hurt on Tuesday night after a pickup truck struck the rear of a vehicle being towed on US 36 west of Brookfield. The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on September 1.

A 2017 Ford F-250 pulling a flatbed trailer entered a median crossover to make a left turn. The trailer had inoperable lighting, and a westbound 2025 Ram then struck the rear of the towed unit. The 35-year-old Ram driver from Lawrence, Kansas, suffered minor injuries. He planned to seek treatment at a later date.

Both vehicles were listed as totaled. The Ford was secured at a residence, while the Ram was towed from the roadway. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under review.

We hope the injured driver makes a full recovery.

What Makes Rear-End Crashes Dangerous?

Rear-end crashes can cause injuries even at moderate speeds. The force of a sudden impact can cause occupants to move quickly within the vehicle, stressing the neck, back, and other parts of the body.

Poor visibility can increase the risk, especially when a vehicle or trailer has limited or malfunctioning lighting. Drivers may have less time to recognize a vehicle ahead and adjust their speed.

Maintaining a safe following distance gives drivers more time to brake when traffic changes. Properly functioning lights, turn signals, and brake lights also help communicate a vehicle’s movements. Drivers towing trailers should make sure required lighting equipment works before entering the roadway.
