How Can Drivers Reduce Red-Light Crash Risks?
Drivers can reduce the risk of intersection accidents by approaching traffic signals at a controlled speed and watching for signal-timing changes. A driver who is too fast or distracted may have less time to stop when a light turns red.
Motorists should also scan intersections before proceeding, even with a green signal. Another driver may enter the intersection after failing to stop, creating a serious hazard.
Avoiding distractions is especially important near signalized intersections. Keeping both hands on the wheel and staying alert to surrounding traffic can help drivers spot developing hazards and react sooner.
