Why Can an SUV Rollover Cause Serious Injuries?
SUV rollovers can create significant risks for occupants because the vehicle may move in several directions after leaving its normal position. Occupants can be thrown against parts of the vehicle or suffer injuries from contact with the roof, windows, or other surfaces.
Seat belts help keep occupants secured during sudden changes in movement. Properly functioning airbags and other safety features can also reduce the severity of some injuries.
Factors that may affect a rollover include vehicle speed, steering movement, road conditions, tire performance, and contact with another vehicle or fixed object. Investigators may examine vehicle damage, roadway markings, photographs, and witness accounts to determine how the sequence unfolded.
