Path-of-Travel Crashes Can Leave Passengers Badly Hurt
A path-of-travel crash can happen when one vehicle moves into another vehicle’s lane or direction of travel. These cases may happen at intersections, driveways, or while a driver is turning across traffic.
When two vehicles meet from opposite directions, the force can be severe. Passengers may face added risk depending on where they are seated and how the vehicles make contact.
Safety restraints can reduce the chance of more serious harm, but they cannot prevent every injury. Medical records, vehicle positions, road layout, and travel direction can help explain why some people are hurt more seriously than others in the same collision.
