What Makes Centerline Crashes So Dangerous
When a vehicle crosses the centerline, drivers coming from the opposite direction may have little time to react. These roadway cases can become especially serious on two-lane routes, where there may be no barrier between travel directions.
A head-on strike can place heavy force on the front of each vehicle. Even at moderate speeds, that force can lead to life-threatening trauma for drivers and passengers.
Early records in these cases may focus on travel direction, lane position, safety restraint use, and final vehicle placement. Road shape, lighting, weather, and driver actions may also help explain how the vehicles came together. Because these crashes can unfold in seconds, every confirmed detail can help clarify the sequence.
