Milwaukee, WI (July 23, 2026) – The Milwaukee police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Tuesday evening, July 21, that claimed the life of a 50-year-old person near North Green Bay Avenue and West Cornell Street.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. on July 21 when an unidentified driver was traveling northbound on North Green Bay Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Investigators said the speeding vehicle collided with another vehicle carrying two occupants before fleeing the scene without stopping.

One person, identified only as a 50-year-old, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of family members. Information regarding the condition of the second occupant has not been released.

Police are actively searching for the driver responsible for the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Why Fatal Hit-and-Run Crashes Require Extensive Investigation

Fatal hit-and-run crashes involve an intensive investigation as authorities work to identify both the driver and the vehicle involved. Investigators collect physical evidence from the scene, analyze vehicle debris, review surveillance and traffic camera footage, and interview witnesses to reconstruct the events.

When a driver flees after a fatal collision, investigators may also seek public assistance while examining nearby businesses and residences for video evidence that could help identify the suspect vehicle.

The findings are used to determine the circumstances of the crash and support any criminal charges once the driver is located.
