How Suspected Impairment Is Investigated After a Fatal Pedestrian Crash?

When impairment is suspected after a fatal pedestrian crash, investigators gather several forms of evidence to determine whether alcohol or drugs may have affected the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle safely. Blood tests, observations made during the investigation, and physical evidence from the roadway are commonly reviewed alongside witness statements and vehicle damage.

The investigation may also examine lighting conditions, visibility, vehicle speed, and the pedestrian’s position before the collision. In many cases, surveillance footage or electronic vehicle data can provide additional information about the moments leading up to the crash. These findings help establish an accurate timeline and determine whether criminal charges are supported by the available evidence.
