The 59-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup, a 28-year-old woman from Callahan, suffered serious injuries. Two children inside the Honda, a 4-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, both from Callahan, were also seriously hurt.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved. The crash remains under investigation. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
What Risks Are Associated With Crossing Multi-Lane Highways?
Crashes often happen when vehicles attempt to cross several lanes of traffic. On highways like US-301, traffic may move faster, leaving drivers little time to react.
Vehicles entering from driveways or side roads must carefully judge gaps in traffic. If another vehicle is approaching in a lane that is not immediately visible, the chance of a side-impact crash increases.
Side collisions can be especially dangerous because the sides of passenger vehicles offer less protection than the front or rear. When children are involved, proper restraint systems can help reduce injury severity, but high-speed impacts can still cause serious harm.
