Safety Considerations for Semi-Truck and Bicycle Crashes
Crashes involving large trucks and bicycles can create serious risks because of the size and weight differences between the vehicles. Bicycle riders may be harder for truck drivers to see, especially near intersections and during turns.
Safety reviews in these cases usually consider factors such as visibility, traffic movement, roadway layout, and driver awareness. Blind spots around large trucks can limit a driver’s ability to detect nearby cyclists.
Sharing the road safely requires attention from everyone traveling through an intersection. Drivers can help protect cyclists by checking carefully before turning and leaving enough space when passing smaller vehicles.
