What Factors Can Lead to Ejection and Entrapment in Highway Crashes?
Ejection from a vehicle often happens when a seatbelt is not used or during high-impact crashes. When a person is thrown from a vehicle, the risk of serious injury rises due to direct contact with the road or nearby objects.
Entrapment can occur when a vehicle’s structure is crushed or bent during a crash. Doors may not open, and parts of the car can pin someone inside. In these situations, specialized tools are often needed to safely remove the person.
Highway crashes tend to involve higher speeds, which can increase the force of impact. Road conditions, sudden stops, and close following distances may also contribute to these types of incidents.
