Easton, MA (March 7, 2026) – A 78-year-old Raynham man was seriously injured on Friday morning after a multi-vehicle crash on Turnpike Street. The crash occurred just after 2 a.m. when a Ford pickup truck struck the back of a Mack dump truck that was stopped on the roadside.
The pickup became trapped under the dump truck, leaving driver Francis Leverone stuck inside. A Toyota Camry then collided with the rear of the pickup, and both vehicles caught fire. Easton Police Officer Dean Soucie arrived at the scene and, with the help of two witnesses, broke the truck’s window and freed Leverone. He was conscious but confused when rescued.
Leverone was taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to Boston Medical Center, where he is recovering from a dislocated hip. No other injuries were reported. Authorities continue to review the crash. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
How Emergency Rescues Unfold During Vehicle Fires
Vehicle fires following crashes are extremely dangerous, as heat, smoke, and fuel can create life-threatening conditions. Responders first focus on removing people from the vehicles to a safe distance before addressing the flames.
In multi-vehicle collisions, trapped occupants may be assisted by emergency personnel and bystanders, especially if doors or windows are blocked. Quick actions, like breaking windows or moving fuel sources, can prevent fires from spreading and reduce the severity of injuries. Witnesses and first responders often coordinate to stabilize victims while keeping themselves safe from hazards like smoke inhalation or explosions.
