El Paso County, CO (January 28, 2026) – A suspected DUI driver traveling the wrong way on I-25 early Wednesday morning triggered a sequence of crashes and pursuits that ended with two people hospitalized, including a Colorado State Trooper, and led to a major lane closure on the interstate just north of Pueblo.
According to Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the incident began around 3:45 a.m. on January 28 when reports came in about a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near Mile Marker 113. The vehicle, a 2021 Honda sedan, eventually turned around and continued heading north in the correct direction. Troopers attempted to stop the driver near Mile Marker 117, but the vehicle did not yield.
As troopers pursued, they finally stopped the Honda near Pikes Peak International Raceway. During efforts to secure the scene, a 2001 Hummer traveling in the left lane struck a CSP patrol SUV as a trooper was positioning the unit to block in the DUI suspect. Both the trooper and the Hummer’s driver were injured in the impact and transported to the hospital. The trooper’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The driver of the Honda, later identified as Jennifer Elaine Bliss of Denver, fled from the initial stop and continued northbound. She was ultimately stopped near Mile Marker 132 by the Fountain Police Department following a brief pursuit. Bliss was not injured and now faces multiple charges, including DUI, failure to yield, and driving the wrong way on a divided highway.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is handling the investigation into the collision between the Hummer and the patrol vehicle. As of 8 a.m., the left lane of northbound I-25 remains closed between Pikes Peak International Raceway and Clear Spring Ranch. There is no estimated time for reopening as authorities continue their investigation.
We extend our support to the injured trooper and driver, and we hope for their full and timely recovery.
