Santa Monica, CA (August 11, 2026) – Two elderly people died Sunday morning, August 9, after a house fire in Santa Monica, according to a report.

The fire was reported shortly before 3 a.m. in the 500 block of Lincoln Blvd. Neighbors called 911 after noticing an orange glow coming from the home.

Emergency units arrived to find flames surrounding the house. A car in the driveway suggested that someone could have been inside.

A search of the residence located two people. They were pronounced dead at the property after attempts to revive them were unsuccessful.

Neighbors said the people who died were an elderly couple who had a caretaker. The caretaker was not inside the home when the fire occurred. The couple’s names had not been confirmed.

Family members later arrived and looked through the damage at the house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with additional details expected as the inquiry continues.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the couple’s loved ones during this difficult time.

What Happens During a House Fire Investigation?

House fire investigations mostly focus on determining where the fire started and what may have caused it. Investigators may examine electrical systems, heating equipment, cooking appliances, and other possible sources of ignition.

Fire patterns can also provide clues about how flames moved through a home. Burn marks, damaged materials, and the condition of electrical components may help establish where the fire began.

Smoke alarms can provide an early warning when a fire starts inside a residence. Working alarms on every level of a home, including near sleeping areas, can give occupants more time to leave safely.

Fire safety plans are also useful for households. Residents should know at least two ways out of each sleeping area and establish an outdoor meeting place away from the home.
