Initial dispatch information indicated the driver of the RAV4 was trapped inside the vehicle after the collision. Emergency units worked at the scene while a tow truck was requested to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the intersection.
The elderly driver was reported to have chest pain and remained inside the SUV while responders assisted.
The intersection was blocked as crews worked to remove the vehicles.
Investigators continue gathering information to determine the cause of the collision. We hope the injured driver makes a speedy recovery.
Why Large-Truck Crashes Can Cause Major Vehicle Damage
Semi-trucks are much larger and heavier than passenger vehicles, resulting in significantly different forces during a collision. Even at lower speeds, an SUV may sustain extensive damage because of the truck’s size and weight.
Intersections present additional challenges as commercial trucks require more space to turn and maneuver. Their length and wider turning path can place them close to nearby vehicles during certain movements.
A roadway review may include vehicle positions, damage patterns, lane alignment, sight distance, and traffic controls. Investigators may also examine tire marks, witness statements, and electronic vehicle data to better understand how the collision developed and why the occupants experienced the reported injuries.
