What Details Are Usually Studied After Fatal Pedestrian Crashes?
Fatal pedestrian crashes frequently require a close review of crosswalk location, traffic signals, vehicle speed, and driver movement before contact. When a pedestrian is struck near an intersection, investigators may also examine visibility, lane position, and nearby traffic flow.
Camera footage and witness statements can help confirm the timeline and the path of the vehicle before impact. Damage to nearby vehicles may also provide context about how the crash unfolded.
Medical findings, roadway marks, debris, and vehicle inspections may help investigators better understand the severity of the collision. These details are sometimes reviewed together when a pedestrian is killed and other vehicles are damaged.
