Elkhart County, IN (February 23, 2026) – Two people were injured on Sunday morning in a collision on County Road 7 north of Hallie Road in Elkhart County. The crash occurred around 9:15 a.m. on February 22.

According to authorities, a 47-year-old Elkhart woman was driving south on County Road 7 when she lost control of her vehicle due to road conditions. Her car began to slide and crossed into the northbound lane.

Investigators said the vehicle then collided with a northbound car driven by a 23-year-old Elkhart man. The woman and her passenger were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No additional details about the other driver’s condition were released.

The incident remains under review by authorities. Our thoughts remain with those affected as they continue to receive care and recover from their injuries.

How Slippery Roads Can Lead to Lane-Crossing Crashes

Wet, icy, or snow-covered roads can reduce tire grip and make it harder for drivers to control their vehicles. Even a small loss of traction can cause a car to slide, especially during turns or sudden braking.

When a vehicle crosses the centerline into oncoming traffic, the risk of a serious collision increases. On two-lane roads without barriers, there may be little room for drivers to avoid an oncoming vehicle that has lost control.

Adjusting speed for weather and road conditions can help reduce the chance of sliding. Giving extra space between vehicles also provides more time to react if another driver loses control.
