Erlanger, KY (February 22, 2026) – Six people were taken to hospitals after a series of crashes Saturday morning on Interstate 75 in Erlanger. The collisions occurred in the northbound lanes near Exit 184 after a disabled vehicle was reported in the middle of the roadway.
Police said the first report came in around 6:37 a.m. A car traveling north swerved to avoid the stalled vehicle but instead collided with two other vehicles in nearby lanes.
A second crash followed when a semitruck struck the disabled car. That impact led to another three-vehicle collision involving the truck, the stalled car, and a third vehicle.
In total, six vehicles were involved. Six people were transported from the scene, with four of the injuries coming from one vehicle. All injuries are expected to be non-life-threatening.
The northbound lanes of I-75 were closed for much of the morning as emergency units worked to secure the area. The cause of the disabled vehicle remains unclear.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our best wishes to those injured as they recover.
How Disabled Vehicles Can Trigger Chain-Reaction Crashes on Interstates
Interstates like I-75 carry steady, high-speed traffic, especially during early morning hours. When a vehicle becomes disabled in a travel lane, drivers approaching the scene may have only seconds to react.
Sudden swerving or braking can create dangerous conditions. A driver attempting to avoid one stopped vehicle may collide with others in adjacent lanes. Large trucks also require longer stopping distances, which increases the risk of secondary impacts.
When multiple lanes are involved, vehicles can become scattered across the roadway, making it difficult for approaching drivers to see a clear path. Quick lane closures are often necessary to allow responders to assist injured people and remove damaged vehicles safely. Chain-reaction crashes highlight how one vehicle can quickly affect many others on a busy highway.
