Why Speed Can Increase the Risk of Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycles can be harder to control at high speeds, especially on roads with curves, intersections, or turning traffic. Faster travel speeds reduce reaction time and can make it more difficult for riders to avoid sudden hazards or changes in traffic flow. Even a small loss of control may quickly lead to a serious collision.
Head-on crashes involving motorcycles often result in severe injuries because riders have less protection than people inside passenger vehicles. Road surface conditions, visibility, braking distance, and driver decisions can all affect how these accidents happen. Investigators reviewing motorcycle crashes may examine skid marks, vehicle damage, and witness accounts to better understand the events leading up to the impact. Information gathered at the scene can later help explain how speed and roadway conditions contributed to the collision.
