How Residential Fires Are Investigated After Fatal Incidents
After a fatal house fire, investigators typically begin by examining where the fire started and how it spread through the structure. This helps determine whether the cause was accidental, electrical, or related to another source.
Fire crews also document structural damage patterns, which can provide clues about how quickly the fire developed. These details are important in understanding conditions that may have affected escape or survival.
Medical examiners later confirm identification and determine the cause of death, while investigators work alongside them to build a full timeline of events leading up to the fire.
