Fair Oaks, VA (March 3, 2026) – Two people were hospitalized on Monday afternoon, March 2, following a multi-vehicle crash on Route 29 at Piney Branch Road. The collision occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the Legato area of Fair Oaks.
Emergency units responded to reports of a crash involving three to five vehicles, including a moving truck, a sedan, and a blue SUV. One adult man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while an adult woman was transported to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Southbound Route 29 was closed between Piney Branch Road and Legato Road for several hours as crews cleared the scene. Limited visibility due to light but steady snow may have been a factor in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care and fully recover.
How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Can Escalate in Snowy Conditions
Inclement weather, such as light snow, can reduce visibility and traction on roadways. Drivers may have less time to react to slowed or stopped vehicles, increasing the likelihood of chain-reaction collisions.
Multi-vehicle crashes often involve sudden stops, swerving, or vehicles crossing into other lanes. Large vehicles, like moving trucks, can make such crashes more severe due to their weight and momentum.
Roadway closures are common after these crashes, as crews must clear debris and ensure the scene is safe. Even minor slips in snowy conditions can lead to serious injuries in multi-vehicle collisions.
