Fairfax, VA (May 20, 2026) – A 22-year-old Fairfax man died Tuesday after his motorcycle was struck by a semi-truck on Route 29 in the Braddock area of Fairfax County. The collision occurred just before 2 p.m. in the 12800 block of Route 29.
The rider, identified as Mikhail Perry, was traveling north on Route 29 on a 2005 Ducati motorcycle when a southbound 2016 Mack semi-truck attempted to make a U-turn directly in his path. Perry’s motorcycle struck the truck, and he was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor for the motorcyclist, according to preliminary findings. No information about the truck driver’s condition was included in the initial report on the wreck.
Crash reconstruction detectives are continuing their work, and findings will be shared as the investigation moves forward. We offer our sincerest condolences to Mikhail Perry’s family and to all those who cared for him.
What Happens When a Motorcycle Strikes a Semi-Truck Making a U-Turn?
When a large commercial truck attempts a U-turn on a multi-lane road, it occupies a wide swath of the roadway for an extended period. Motorcyclists traveling in either direction may have very little time to react, especially if the truck moves unexpectedly or blocks sight lines. The size difference between a motorcycle and a fully loaded semi is extreme — a large truck can weigh 20 to 30 times more than a motorcycle and rider combined. In a collision where a motorcycle strikes the side or undercarriage of a truck, the rider typically absorbs the full force with almost no structural protection. Speed at the time of a crash like this can significantly affect the severity of injuries, as higher speed reduces the time available to brake and increases the energy transferred on contact.
