Why Bicycle Crashes Near Highway Ramps Can Be Severe
Bicycle accidents near highway ramps can lead to serious injuries because traffic patterns often change quickly. Drivers may be slowing down, turning, or merging as they approach surface streets. These movements can leave little time for a driver or bicyclist to react.
Visibility can also be a concern in evening crashes. Lighting, road angles, and nearby traffic may affect how soon someone sees a bicyclist. Even at lower speeds, a rider has far less protection than a person inside a vehicle.
After a serious bicycle crash, responders usually focus on medical care and scene safety first. Road closures may follow when crews need space to protect the injured person and review the crash area.
