What Happens When a Driver Fails to Yield at an Intersection?
Intersections are among the most common places for serious roadway crashes. When a driver fails to yield the right-of-way, vehicles traveling in different directions can enter the same space at the same time, creating a high risk of severe injuries. These crashes occur with little warning, giving drivers limited time to react.
Several factors may be reviewed after a fatal roadway crash, including vehicle positions, speed, visibility, traffic controls, and statements from those involved. Investigators may also examine whether impairment, distraction, or other contributing circumstances played a part. Early reports frequently contain only basic information while additional evidence is collected.
The severity of injuries in an intersection-related accident can depend on many factors, including vehicle size, point of contact, and seat belt use. Even at moderate speeds, side-impact and angle crashes can result in life-threatening harm because occupants have less protection from direct force.
